Get to Know Dr. Dlamini

Dr Khayalethu Dlamini, “Khaya” as he is commonly known, is a Urologist. He was born in and raised in Pietermaritzburg, KZN. He trained as an undergraduate at the University of Cape Town, where he graduated in 2014 with a Degree in Medicine and Surgery. He commenced his internship at the Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex where discovered his passion and aptitude for surgery.

He then went on to do his Community Service in Mpumalanga at Bethal Provincial Hospital where he spent the year working in the General Surgery Unit, where he noted the sheer lack of support and expertise in managing Urological conditions in the public sector. This led him on a path to becoming a Specialist Urological Surgeon. After his community service, he worked in the General Surgery department at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital and the Urology Department at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital as a Medical Officer and then in 2019 moved on to the University Pretoria for his Specialist training in Urology, working at the Steve Biko and Kalafong Academic Hospitals in Pretoria.

After more than a decade of studying and training, he completed his training in 2023 and was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Urologists of South Africa, awarded with a Certificate of Merit as one of the top performers in the final exam. He then received his Masters in Medicine Degree from the University of Pretoria with Distinction (Cum Laude). His medical philosophy is to treat people holistically, looking beyond their urogenital system. He has a special interest in Uro-Oncology, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Urinary Stone disease, Urinary tract infections, Male Sexual and Reproductive Health.
